Mesh Curtain Fireplace Screens
|
Mesh curtain fireplace screens are the most common fireplace screens. Mesh curtains are recessed into the opening of your firebox. The curtain screens also know as a wire screen because wire is woven together like a chain link fence. The mesh curtain screens are mounted to the lentil bar on your fireplace. Every masonry fireplace has a lentil bar. The lentil bar is located at the top of the opening it is either a flat piece of steel or angle iron that is used to support the bricks spaning the opening. A rod is mounted to the lentil bar either by clamps or can be drilled and screwed. The mesh cutains hang from the rod on wire rings spaced out every few inches. Mesh curtain fireplace screens have coiled pull bars located at the top of each panel allowing the curtains to be pulled to either side (wearing hearth gloves) when tending the fire.
Mesh curtain screens are widely used on zero clearance fireplaces which are factory made metal fireboxes. On the zero clearance fireplaces the curtains hang from a rod that is inserted into tabs at the top of either side. The mesh screens are pulled to either side using coiled pull bars.
Mesh curtain screens can be custom made to fit any size opening. They are the least expensive of any custom screens. Over the years the screens can warp from the heat buth they are easily and inexpensively replaced.
Replacement mesh screens are sold in pairs. Each panel is 24 inches wide and varies in lengths ranging from 16 to 36 inches high.
